I fell off the grid...

I'm sorry that I lost touch. I'll try not to do it again.

A lot has happened since my last post... so let's just go back to the beginning...

Okay, Doolie Day Out was absolutely impossibly amazing. Hearing your most favorite voice after twenty-one days of not hearing it is the best feeling in the world. Cody and I talked for five hours, and it was one of the best days of my summer. Sadly, it hurt a lot more afterwards. It was tough to go back to letter writing.

But, then, all of the sudden, basic ended. And then Cody was a cadet, a C4C. I sent him a care package. And before I knew it, we were talking on Facebook every single day, and in a couple days, we were video chatting! I recommend using oovoo if you have a loved one at the Academy. It freezes on his end quite a bit, but normally he can still hear me.

Pretty soon, I was getting ready to head off to college myself. I was nervous but very excited. I was ready to get out of my hometown and spread my wings in Saint Louis. At first glance, I loved SLU. The city was new, the people were new. It was all fun. But as time went on, I fell out of love. Saint Louis is a city, yes, but it's still in the midwest. The people here are the same ones I grew up with back home. I need something bigger. More different.

Before I knew it, September 20th was here, and I was on a plane on my way to Denver International Airport! We had some hiccups in the trip... there was a major traffic jam the entire ride from Denver to Colorado Springs, so the trip took about three hours when it should've taken one. But I got there! And I was once again in the arms of my love. We had Friday, Saturday, and Sunday together, and it was the most fun thing. I am so, so, so happy that I went.

After being in Colorado Springs... I knew that Saint Louis wasn't the place for me. Colorado is a breath taking state. The whole time I was just in awe of the beautiful mountains. So... crazy me... I decided to transfer to University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the spring semester.

After many phone calls to convince my mom that it was a good idea and my dad that he shouldn't murder Cody, I was officially enrolled at UCCS for the spring semester, and on January 17th I will be moving out to Colorado! I absolutely can't wait. This is the craziest decision I've ever made, and it's about time I was bold with my life. So I'm going to be bold. And I'm going to move across the country to be closer to the boy that I'm sure I'm gunna marry. And people are gunna think I'm crazy, but that's okay. Because this is the right decision. I'm sure of it.

And now I'm just counting down the days until Thanksgiving break (TWENTY BY THE WAY). Cody's flying into Saint Louis, and we're going to spend Saturday together here. It'll be lovely.

I have also become obsessed with www.moreloveletters.com. This beautiful movement has been compelling strangers to write love letters to strangers for a few years now, and I am so excited to become a part of it. Seriously, go check it out.

Doolie Day Out and the Birthday Ball

In just five more days, I will get to talk to Cody on the phone. This is really exciting, and I can't wait for the 20th. It is really tough to have your communication reduced to only letter writing. I am so blessed that Cody takes the time to write me every day, but even that just isn't enough sometimes.

I have been planning my trip out to Colorado for the Birthday Ball in September, and I am incredibly excited for that. It will be the first time that I see Cody since he left for the Academy, and it'll be my first military ball. I have heard that the Birthday Ball at the Academy is very boring because the whole purpose of it is to teach 4th class cadets proper ball etiquette, but I still think that it'll be interesting. I am a little bit nervous about it, though, because I've never been to anything like it, and I don't know what to expect at all. My biggest fear is that I'll do something extremely impolite on accident and embarrass Cody, but I think that I'll be able to tell from watching other people what is and isn't acceptable.

This is also a big time for me because I've been getting all of my financial stuff ready for SLU. It's hard to believe that I'm signing loans for college already. It seems like I'm not old enough for this yet. I know it'll seem so unreal when I go to SLU in the fall, and I can't wait. This will be a great adventure. Saint Louis is an amazing city, and I am very excited to live there.

Well, here goes...

I suppose that since this is my first ever blog post that I should introduce myself.

My name is Caitlyn, and I graduated from high school two months ago (approximately). I am headed to Saint Louis University in the fall to get a BA in psychology and a secondary certificate in legal studies. I am a pre-law scholar at SLU.

My boyfriend's name is Cody, and he is a basic cadet in the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He plans to study electrical engineering as of right now, and he hopes to go to pilot school and be a pilot for the US Air Force.

On June 25th Cody left early in the morning for Colorado, and on June 27th he started Basic Cadet Training (or BCT). BCT will last for six weeks, and the basic cadets are only allowed to have their phones for one day in the middle of it. Having our only contact be reduced to letter writing has been really tough, especially because I live in Illinois, and it takes about four to five days for mail to get to Colorado from here.

So far, I have received three letters from Cody, all on the same day. It was really great to get those letters, because I miss him tremendously. I'm hoping I'll have more tomorrow, but it's dangerous to get too excited over it.

I plan for this blog to be mostly about what's it's like to be the girlfriend of a student of the USAFA from start to finish, as well as my journey through college. I'll try my best to keep up with it and write regularly.
